Can The New Nintendo Switch 2 Exceed Its Hype?
Introduction
$450... Is the
Nintendo Switch 2 console really worth that price tag? That's a $150 price
increase, or a 33.33% price hike. There's a lot different with this new Switch,
from a larger 7.9-inch screen to the fact that you can’t even own the Switch 2.
Today, I'll dive into the Nintendo Switch 2 to help you decide if it's a
worthwhile investment for you, readers.
Feel and Design
First, let's talk
about the feel and the design. This device is massive, but not in a bad way. You get about 60% more viewing area to play your games. Compared to
the original Nintendo Switch, it's noticeably bigger, which is a good thing
since most people weren't trying to put this in their pockets anyway. The
Switch 2 feels stronger and less likely to break.
Don't forget the
kickstand. It's not the sturdiest thing ever, but it gets the job done.

We can't talk
about the build without mentioning the Joy-Cons, and I'm happy to say these are
much bigger. Their buttons offer a more satisfying click compared to the Switch
1 buttons. While the design isn't drastically different, you can tell that the
analog sticks are larger, and the primary triggers have deeper travel and
better contouring.
As a bonus, the new Joy-Cons have improved
haptics and are designed to prevent drift.
I also know some
people are worried that the magnetic attachment of the Nintendo Switch 2
Joy-Cons might result in rattling or them coming off easily. Fear not, for
influencers like MrWhoseTheBoss (one of our sources) have shown that the
magnets are strong and there's no rattling whatsoever.
But enough
stalling, we have to talk about the pressing features: the C button and the
mouse feature.
The C Button
The C button
provides the option to chat, which, in case you didn't know, is a simple but
great feature. Chatting with your friends is a critical part of gameplay if you
don't want to be lonely while gaming. There are some potential downsides,
however. The microphone is on the Nintendo Switch 2 itself, which means if you
dock it on your TV and play from your couch, it might not capture your voice
properly. Also, if you want your friends to see you while chatting, you'll need
to shell out $50 for a Nintendo Switch 2 camera. That's not ideal.

The Mouse Feature
The mouse
feature, on the other hand, is fantastic. Using its optical sensors, you simply
lay a Joy-Con flat with the analog stick on the side, and you can now use it as
a mouse with haptic feedback. Games like Super Mario Maker would be
significantly easier to play with this. It's a truly revolutionary feature in
the console world.
"I'm not
buying a desk just to use the mouse mode!"
Fear not, haters,
because this mouse works well on your lap. Just move it across your legs, and
it functions perfectly.
DISPLAY
Let's discuss the
display, which is a significant upgrade compared to the Switch 1. This is a
7.9-inch 1080p LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. I know that when you,
nerds, see that, you might think, "LCD!" But these screens can
display an insane resolution despite being LCD. If you don't believe me, check
out some videos of it. Another misconception is that all games will run at
120Hz. It's actually a variable refresh rate.
For those of you
who are not familiar with what a variable refresh rate is, it essentially means
that game developers can choose to make their games run at up to 120Hz. You
noobs might be asking, "Why wouldn't all game developers make their games
run at up to 120Hz?" Well, making games run at 120Hz uses up a lot of
battery, so if a game looks exactly the same at 60Hz as it does at 120Hz,
they'll likely run it at 60Hz.
Do you know what else runs at 60Hz? The Switch 2, when you dock it. It goes up to 4K resolution but runs at 60Hz.
GAMES(Brief)
Let's talk about games now. The Nintendo Switch 2 can run normal Switch games along with Switch 2 exclusives. These Switch 2 exclusives include Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, and more. In my opinion, these Switch 2 games are very good, especially Mario Kart World, but they are pricey. The prices will be shown in another blog post. (Keep reading, and you'll find the link to that blog.) (We may also write blogs about the games)
GameShare
Another returning feature is GameShare. Just like it sounds, it lets you share games so you and your friends can play with only one of you needing to own it. This is one of the coolest features because with all these crazy prices now, you can just say, "Can you buy it so we can both play
Prices
Speaking of prices, I will list accessories, games, and the Nintendo Switch 2's prices in another blog post, for which the link will be provided.https://isitworthitblog.blogspot.com/2025/05/prices-for-nintendo-accessories-and.html?sc=1747617269092&m=1#c4726564896243367491
USER AGREEMENT
Now I will talk about the fact that you don’t own the Switch 2 even if you buy it. How? Well, Nintendo updated its user agreement, saying tinkering with the Nintendo Switch 2 or its games authorizes Nintendo to brick your device. “I have the right to do what I want to do with the device I own,” you might be saying, however, you don’t own it.
Nintendo is simply licensing it. Even if you buy the physical version of any game, it’s a “key” to download it. So, don’t get the physical version. This is one of the cons
CONCLUSION
Finally, I'll
tell you about my opinion on whether it's worth it. I think... It's worth it.
That's my hot take. It's overpriced, but the experience is crazy good. If you
have the money, buy it; if not, save up because it's really good. Please
comment below if you think it's worth it, and follow our blog for more random
reviews.
